Where Is the Door Switch Located in a Microwave

Location of microwave door switch bracket inside the front frame near the door latch.

Introduction

The microwave door switch is usually located behind the front panel of the microwave near the door latch. Most microwaves contain two or three switches mounted in a small plastic bracket.

These switches confirm that the microwave door is securely closed before the appliance begins operating.

How the Door Switch Is Positioned

When the microwave door closes, the door latch hooks enter the microwave frame and press against the door switches.

This activates the switches and signals to the microwave control system that it is safe to operate the appliance.

If the switches do not activate correctly, the microwave will usually refuse to start.

Typical Location of the Door Switch

In most microwave models the door switches are located:

• Behind the front control panel
• Next to the door latch opening
• Inside a plastic mounting bracket

The exact position can vary slightly depending on the brand and model of microwave.

Accessing the Door Switch

To access the switch assembly:

  1. Disconnect power from the microwave

  2. Remove the screws holding the outer cover

  3. Slide the cover off the appliance

  4. Locate the door latch area near the front frame

You should see a small bracket containing two or three switches.
